Canterbury Hockey My Vaccine Pass Requirement

Published Wed 26 Jan 2022

Kia ora Canterbury Hockey Community,

After careful consideration of the government’s current traffic light framework, Canterbury Hockey has made the decision to now operate with the ‘My Vaccine Pass required’ approach across all Canterbury Hockey venues, events, and competitions so we can protect our hockey community and best delivery our sport.

As the Canterbury region currently has the second highest vaccine rates, with 99% of the eligible population receiving their first vaccinated and 97% double vaccinated, operating under the ‘My Vaccine Pass’ approach makes sense for our hockey community.

This decision has been made in consultation with Hockey NZ, Christchurch City Council, and Sport Canterbury. This is also in line with Secondary Sport Canterbury’s decision that all students playing in Schools Sport Canterbury delivered or sanctioned events and competitions will be required to be fully vaccinated.

Most importantly, this approach greatly increases the possibility of Canterbury Hockey delivering a full and uninterrupted season.

‘My Vaccine Pass’ will be required for the entire Canterbury Hockey Community over the age of 12 years and 3 months old (as per the government framework). This includes all players, coaches, managers, umpires, officials, spectators, and Canterbury Hockey staff/volunteers.

This approach will come into effect in line with the continuation of our Master’s Club competition, as of this Thursday 27th January, with all current or upcoming competitions and programmes requiring ‘My Vaccine Passes’. This also includes our Accelerators Programmes (starting 2nd February) and Summer Hockey (starting 14th February).

In regards to the winter club and school season, further information and guidelines on the season framework, and registration process will be communicated to clubs and schools within the next week.
