Club News - Porritt Cup winners and Super Saturday

Published Sun 01 May 2022

A big thanks to our volunteers

Our season is now underway with Seniors having played a few games and Juniors due to start next weekend. This season we have some 30 teams which is up from last year.

This preseason has been particularly hard for all sporting codes and we have been no different. There have been real challenges around holding trials and selecting teams, with a lot of players out with Covid and needing time for recovery . Our club volunteers have been amazing and gone way over and above to ensure our players can get out there on the pitch. So a big thanks.

Pakistan trophy

Recently our very own Club legend, Pat Barwick, was awarded New Zealand hockeys highest administrator award, the Pakistan Trophy. This is awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding national contribution to the administration of hockey in the previous 12 months.

Amazing work and truly deserved.

Porritt cup and a Super Saturday

On Saturday 24 April our two premier senior teams both won their respective Porritt Cup (preseason competition) finals against Marist.

The men won their match on shootout in a convincing fashion, after being all tied up at 3-3 at full time. The woman then followed up soon after with a hard fought 3-2 win.

To top off this outstanding day for the Club, both of our premier reserve (Division 1) teams notched up victories over perennial favourites Harewood.

A lot more juniors this season

This season we have up to 40 new juniors joining the club that haven’t played the game before ! That is massive for our game and really exciting for the future.

We have our junior coaches and managers session this afternoon and will be presenting a new Junior Club manual with alot of useful coaching tips and tricks!

A big thanks to Lisa and Miranda for all their hard work getting our junior teams together!!

Look forward to seeing all of our mightly Reddos teams out on the pitches soon

Onwards and upwards!

Regards
