Women’s Mid Week Open Division 1 vs. Rangiora Hurunui (lost 4-1)
It was a balmy autumnal evening at Waimakariri on Tuesday. The team met at dusk, warmly greeting each other after their long relaxing break. The vibe was chillax and the mojo strong, despite pitching up with a mere 11 players.
This was not to last long once the shock of a month of no exercise kicked in exactly 3.5 minutes after the game started.
Hurunui came out strong, with lots of great passing and fast running up the right throughout the game, knocking four goals in by the end.
We panted our way through the game – Sue did some fabulous leading/running up front, along with Olivia the Second, who debuted for Reddos and will make a superb addition to the team! Lynnie, Shandy and Sharon worked hard through the mid field but the refs were tough and let the game play longer than our advantage often lasted. Q3 was our best quarter (Go Reddos!) and we did manage to score one goal through some great passing from one end of the field to the other.
In the end it was a disappointing affair as we knew we could have played better, but in the profound words of Yazz from 1988, The Only Way is Up. Next week we’ll be back and we’ll be one week fitter!
