REDDOS IN FINALS ACTION

Published Fri 25 Sep 2020

Dear all

To our Division 1 Men’s, CPL Men’s and CPL Woman’s teams, a big congratulations on making the final!  Both the Div 1 Men and Prem Women will be defending their titles, and the Prem Men are looking to complete an unbeaten season.  As a club we are really proud of your efforts this season and know you will leave it all out there on the pitch this weekend. Give it heaps, keep playing our attacking brand of skill based hockey, play hard but fair and enjoy the moment.

Also to our Platinum Division 1 Girls team, awesome effort taking out their Championship with a game to spare!  Finally, but certainly not any less important, let's get out there this weekend and support all our other teams as they have their final games.

Look forward to seeing as many of you out at NPW as possible. We will be selling $10 Reddos supporter tees at the Game also, only 50 available!!!  See you there ………

Go the mighty Reddos!!!!

Div 2 Women v HSOB 4 - 2 win

The team started well -  territorially and with good field position the team kept the ball at the attacking end and got two great goals in short succession. They then conceded a goal after being unable to clear the ball from the circle right on half time - so lead 2-1 at that point. After the break they got stuck in to some great plays to lead 4-2 which they held into the final quarter and continued to attack the HSOB defence just missing another goal. Final score a well deserved 4-2 -that lifts us, I believe to play 5/6 from 9 teams.

Platinum Men v Southern 3 -2 win

Sundays match for Carlton Redcliffs Platinum men's team saw them taking on competition leaders Southern Unted.  The Boys had nothing to lose but everything to gain from putting in a great performance and continuing the improvement they have shown all season.

The game started with Reddo's applying early pressure on the Southern goal through accurate passing and slick stickwork creating opportunities for their strikers. After some good buildup, Hamish Sherratt scored from a well-directed reverse stick shot for an early 1-0 lead.  A little more control and better option taking in the scoring zone could have seen them ahead by more than one goal after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Southern applying more pressure on the Reddo's but some fine saves by Zac Adams (GKP) and the defence of Louis Van der Bent, Oscar Chaffey, and Riley Jones defused what opportunities Southern created. Reddo's managed to gain a penalty corner in the closing stages of the quarter and Oscar Chaffey drilled a low drag flick giving the Southern GKP no opportunity to save. Reddo's half line of Fletcher Lawn, Jonty Munt, Aidan Orczy (injured) and Jack Sutherland made life difficult for the Southern midfield with some timely intercepts and solid tackling creating a level of frustration in the Southern lineup and not allowing them to gain any real ascendancy.

Reddo's took a 2-0 lead into the second half and it would require a huge effort to keep the lead or indeed add to it.

The midfield has been one of the strong points of this Team, well lead by Hamish Sherratt and supported ably by Will Goldsbury and Jonty Munt they maintained possession and fed the hard working strikers Helm Betts, Tim Chapman and Seb Burns.

Midway through the third quarter a defensive error saw Southern awarded a penalty corner which they converted from a well worked variation, score 2-1 Southern United saw an opportunity and started to put a few passes together, some loose marking in the circle saw a Southern striker left unmarked and a good pass found his stick for a well taken goal, score 2-2

They managed to negotiate the rest of the quarter without further mishap and after some words of wisdom from Coach Van der Bent started the final quarter with a real positive attitude. They applied some early pressure on the Southern defence with some well directed overheads from Oscar Chaffey coupled with wise running and good leads from the strikers and midfield, one of those leads saw Helm Betts in possession on the top left of the attacking circle where he created some space with a nice right to left drag and hit a superbly directed reverse stick slap to a well positioned Tim Chapman on the right post for a tap in, score 3-2 with approx. eight minutes remaining in the match.

A desperate Southern United threw everything into attack but this Reddo's Team was not going to crack. They played with a level of maturity not often seen in such players and denied the opposition possession and opportunity.

This was a 3-2 win which showed how much this Team has developed over the season under the guidance and Coaching of Andrew with the support of Team Manager Chelle.

Best of luck next week for a third place finish.

Women’s MWO Div 1 beat University 3 - 2

If the MWO Women’s Div 1 team was a car, it’d be a rolls Royce..... a timeless piece of mechanical art that moves gracefully with power. And so is this well-oiled MWO machine. In a final show of teamwork we  beat the young and less experienced University to end the round on the cusp of making finals (we are still waiting to hear if we have!). It was our slick passing that brought the victory home, all around the pitch too, not just in pockets.

It was a great win to have under our belts, having lost to this team in other rounds.

Go Reddos!

CPL Women v Avon -win 4 -1

Who is ready for some finals hockey!! We sure are!
4 - 1 win over Avon today puts us into the final against Harewood.
It was a flying start to the game today with 3 goals on the board by the end of the first quarter. Avon upped there game and managed to peg one back in the last quarter but we managed to match them and score again as well.

Goals to
Leah Butt x2
Sophie Prebble
Jacqui Moorfield

CPL Men v Avon 2 - 1 win

A bit of a dog fight but the lads stayed in it, going behind in the third quarter before levelling shortly after.  Ed Enersen put the boys ahead with nine minutes remaining, and they held on during some chaotic final few minutes.

Finals footy is on!
